Professor Shin-Kun Peng was born in Taiwan on August 20th, 1956. He received the Ph.D. in Regional Economics from University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia in 1989. He majors in Regional Economic, Industrial Organization, and International Trade. Besides working at Institute of Economics Academia Sinica, in the last 25 years, he was a guest professor in Kyoto Institute Economics at University of Kyoto in Japan in 2004, a visiting professor in Department of Economics at Washington University in St. Louis in 1997-1998, an adjacent professor Fu-Jen Catholic University, Soochow University in China, National Taiwan University, and National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan respectively.
He also was a deputy executive secretary of the Central Advisory Committee at Academia Sinica, the coordinator of Regional Science Research Section in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at National Science Council, an advisory committee member of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at Ministry of Science and Technology, an executive committee of Academic Review Committee at Ministry of Education. In addition, he also served as the president of the Chinese Regional Science Association, the president of the Taiwan Economic Association, the director of Institute of Economics in Academia Sinica. He is a distinguished research fellow of Institute of Economics, Academia Sinica since 2011, and a joint-appointment professor in the Department of Economics at National Taiwan University and National Cheng Kung University now.
Since his distinguished research performance in the last ten years, he has received a few academic research awards: Investigator Award (Academia Sinica, 2016), the Research Achievement Award in Social Science (Ministry of Education, Taiwan, 2009), the Distinguished Research Award (National Taiwan university, 2009), the Distinguished Research Award in Economics (National Science Council, Taiwan, 2007), Taiwan Industrial Economics Award (Taiwan Economics and Industry Association, 2005), and Academic Research Award (The Institute of Urban Planning in 2003), respectively.
In the other academic professional service, he is the chief editor of Academia Economic Papers, and the associate editor of several International Journals in the field of economics which includes the International Journal of Economic Theory, the Annual of Regional Science, the Economics Bulletin, and the Asia Pacific Economic Review. He also organized two established international conferences, "2012 Public Economic Theory," and "2014 Asian Meeting of Econometric Society" respectively in Taipei, Taiwan. And he is just elected as the President of Chinese Economic Association in North America (CEANA) since January 2015.
